Teal Block Batik Silk Scarf
Hand-painted Batik art stole with teal and white blocks layered alternatively and edged with a teal silk border. Looks simple but pretty complex to make! Our collection of Batik stoles comes from the studio of a talented Batik artist in Bengal.
Batik is an ancient form of fabric painting that uses wax resist techniques to create beautiful art impressions. It's a craft that is practiced extensively across South & South-East Asian countries. The literal meaning of Batik is wax writing. Based on a design, the artist first applies the wax resist. This is then followed by dyeing the fabric. The characteristic batik effect is created by cracking the wax on the lighter hues and seeping in of the darker colors though them. This results in the classic patterns that Batik is known for. Batik is a time consuming process that requires skill and creativity. Applying the wax resist and systematic cracking are the key to a beautiful art piece. It's an art followed passionately by many young artists in Bengal today.
